Review: Shinkou Shuukyou Gakudan NoGoD - Tenbatsu Enban

Introduction

Opens up with some static and a beat that would be modified and used again in the band’s song NO GOD. Danchou is wailing moaning climaxing fluctuating his voice with the guitars and drums. Overall, it’s slow, weird, and creepy. In the end, Danchou’s voice rises and that leads us to the next song. Good thing this introduction is “short”.

Musical Religion? My ass. It sounds like Danchou needs to change his diaper. There’s nothing “musical” about this track for the first half. It’s a bunch of screaming and constipated grunting. The guitars are only mildly cool at certain parts, and only at certain parts, which would be when there is no weirdness of the voice going on.

And then Danchou busts out into some REAL NoGoD music and goes pro for a few seconds before we go back to the cacophony that was the beginning. Thank god this song ended.

Strawberry Night

君に贈る不器用で身勝手な時

This song is an accurate representation of NoGoD’s poppier style of music. This was the first single they ever released, and you can sort of tell if you listen to some of their new stuff nowadays. The voice overlaying might drag you in or polarize you, but at least it’s -relatively- normal. Kyrie’s solo is great, even if it is short, but he reappears at the end just in case you needed a good way to end this song. Shinno’s version is better because it’s more polished. Also worth a listen.

Straddling the line somewhere between Strawberry Night and Shuukyou Ongaku, I guess you could call it one of their “harder” songs. Danchou’s gurgling doesn’t suit his voice at all. Speaking of which, I wonder why they call this song “oval”. O look at that, some bass action going on. You can hear it clearly in this song. How quaint.

OK, the solo is badass. I’ll give this song that. Other than that, it really fails to grab my attention. I’m a sucker for solos, so I think I’ll revisit this song a few more times down the road and end up liking it eventually. I guess you can do the same as well.

Still don’t like the gurgling <_<

I honestly can’t tell the difference between Shinno’s version and Aki’s version.

The only proper “ballad” on this album, and I use that term lightly. Like curry powder lightly. It’s on the same loudness factor as Migattena, but somehow less poppy. Not a favorite of mine, but I don’t dislike the track either. Just can’t pay attention (and that’s at other times other than two in the friggin morning as well).

The song goes out the same way it starts, so…..I honestly have nothing to say for this song. I’m not going to suck it, but I’m not going to bash it either. Just formulate your own opinion.

祈祷

Moar gurgling. Nice. And a little “Grudge” moment before some stable drumming. Nicer.

GUITAR? Well of course, but still. Here comes Danchou to…not gurgle all over the track?

OK, so he screams in this track. Somehow it works here better than it did Shuukyou Ongaku. Am I partial? Not really. I think the guitar work in Kitou is a lot better, but considering the track came out a year later that’s not really any surprise. They did some experimenting here I see because it slows to a crawl in the middle of the track and stops. I'm just going to stop now before I uncover something else....

So, in order to sum it all up, it starts out like a mess and ends like one too, but everything from track three to track six is worth listening to at least once. The main problem here is that they didn’t find their sound just yet, and like most rockers they have to resort to primordial screaming to get a point across. Me want song. Me make noise. Me take out CD now.
